Police in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district has tightened security outside the school, where violence erupted after a Class 12 student committed suicide on Sunday.
Violence erupted in Kallakurichi when protesters torched buses and school property, demanding justice for the death of the student.
Three people were arrested- DGP.
Speaking to the media, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) C Silendra Babu said that three people, including school correspondent Ravi Kumar, secretary Shanti, and principal Siva Sankaran, were involved in the death of the 17-year-old girl and maintaining security in the school’s hostel.
The case has been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CBCID).
Home Secretary requested the public not to indulge in violence.
State Home Secretary Phanindra Reddy requested the public not to indulge in acts of violence. Reddy said, “The aim of the government is to clear all doubts in this matter.
We are assuring that this matter will be investigated from all angles. We appeal to the public not to indulge in acts of violence and not to pay heed to rumors.
Earlier, Babu and Reddy, along with other officers, met police personnel at a hospital who were injured during the violence in Kallakurichi.
Protesters pelted stones at school vans and torched buses.
On Sunday, more than a thousand people staged a sit-in in front of the school demanding justice over the death of the girl student. The protesters pelted stones at the police van.
Police tried to control the situation but the protesters damaged the police vehicle. Some policemen have also been injured.
The accused will be punished- CM Stalin.
Appealing for peace, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin tweeted, ‘Violence worries me. The accused will be punished once the police investigation is over on the death of the schoolgirl.
I have asked DGP, Home Secretary to visit Kallakurichi. I request people to maintain peace.
Student commits suicide after being forced to study – Police.
According to police officials, “the deceased girl died by suicide on the school premises on Tuesday night and a note was found in which it was alleged that two teachers of the school harassed her for forcing her to study all the time.”
A case of death of the girl student was registered under section 174 (unnatural death).
