After the highly talked about and successful web series Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story in 2020, Sony Liv has now announced its second season, Scam 2003, advancing the scam franchise.
The second season will also be directed by Hansal Mehta. The producer of the series, Apple Entertainment, announced this on social media on Thursday and gave information about the scam 2003-
The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi. Its story is taken from journalist Sanjay Singh’s Hindi book Reporter’s Diary. Sanjay Singh broke the big story of this scam at that time.
Scam 2003 will originally be the story of Abdul Karim Telgi, whose stamp paper Scam was revealed in 2003.
The series will show how Telgi, born in Khanpur, Karnataka, became the mastermind of a scam that successfully spread scandal in several states of the country and the scam of Rs 20,000 crore.
Renowned Marathi filmmaker Kiran Yadanopavit has been given the responsibility of writing the screenplay along with the book’s writer Sanjay Singh. The series will be released next year on Sony Liv.
Telgi’s fake stamp paper business was spread in many states.
As the layers of this scandal opened up, many shocking aspects came to the fore. Telgi hired 350 people to print fake stamp paper. The heat of this scam reached many government officials.
After the arrest of Telgi in Ajmer in 2001, the scam was completely exposed in 2003. In 2006, Telgi was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty and fined Rs 202 crore. Telgi died in 2017 at the age of 56.
Hansal Mehta-directed scam 1992- The Harshad Mehta Story was streamed on Sony Live in 2020 and the series received a lot of accolades and awards.
Prateik Gandhi played the title role in the series, which proved to be the turning point for his career.
The scam was based on the 1992 journalists Sucheta Dalal and Devashish Basu’s book The Scam- Who Won, Who Lost, Who Lost Away.
Sucheta was played by Shreya Dhanvantari in the series. Its screenplay was written by Sumit Purohit, Saurabh Dey, Vaibhav Vishal, and Karan Vyas. It was also produced by Applause Entertainment.
