The operation and sale of firecrackers in West Bengal during Kali Puja has been banned by the Calcutta High Court, with the Supreme Court denying the intervention on Wednesday.
The court said, “People’s lives are more important in view of the crisis of coronavirus pandemic.” Vacation benches with Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee said that festivals are important but people’s lives are currently at risk due to the epidemic.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition that lifted the ban on firecrackers in West Bengal. Justice DY Chandrachud said, ‘We understand the importance of festivals.
But when we are in crisis, any effort can be made to protect and save human life.
He added, “We are very conscious of the festivals but we are battling the pandemic Covid-19 and everyone should support and support it so that the situation improves.”
Vacation benches comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee said that festivals are important but people’s lives are currently at risk due to the epidemic.
The bench said that the High Court is more aware of the local situation as to what is appropriate and what is not there.
The order given by the High Court in the Supreme Court was challenged by Gautam Roy and Burrabazaar and Fireworks Dealers Association last week.
All the festivals including Kali Puja and Chhath Puja were ordered by the High Court to ban the sale of firecrackers and for running and running it. Kali Puja will be celebrated on Saturday.

Chetan Thapa, the leader of the Gojmumo Vinay Tamang faction injured in an attack at a tea estate in Takwar area under Darjeeling Sadar police station, has been brought from Darjeeling to Siliguri for treatment.
He has been badly injured in the knife attack and has been referred to Siliguri from Darjeeling Sadar Hospital. Chetan Thapa has been admitted to a private nursing home in Siliguri for medical purposes.
An FIR has been lodged against 7 people, supporters of Vimal Gurung, in the Darjeeling Sadar police station regarding this matter.
According to the information received, after the appearance of Gojmumo’s underground leader Vimal Gurung, now the phase of capturing Gojamu’s party office has started at various places in the Darjeeling mountain region.
Due to which a period of conflict has started between Vinay Tamang and Vimal Gurung supporters. A similar incident occurred in a tea garden in Takwar area.
