In the quarterfinals, the pair will face the Brazilian pair of Bruno Soares and Beatriz Haddad Maia or the Australian-Canadian pair of John Peer and Gabriella Dabrowski.

Sania has already announced that this is the last season of her career. In women’s doubles, she lost to Czech Republic partner Lucie Hradecka in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Cam Norrie defeated Tommy Paul in straight sets in the pre-quarterfinals.

She is the first British player after the legendary Andy Murray to reach the last eight of this tournament in the last 5 years. Ninth seed Norrie won 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.

This is the first time he has progressed beyond the third round of a Grand Slam tournament. To reach the semi-finals, he will have to overcome the challenge of David Goffin of Belgium.

Maria, who is ranked 103rd in the world rankings, won 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 in a close contest. The German player is now the oldest woman in a singles draw.

Prior to this, Maria’s best performance in a Grand Slam was reaching the third round of Wimbledon in 2015. She lost in the first round in her last 6 Grand Slam matches.

She will face compatriot Jule Niemeyer in the next round. Niemeyer, participating in Wimbledon for the first time, defeated local legend, Heather Watson.

The 22-year-old Niemeyer, who lost in the first round of the French Open in May, defeated Watson 6-2, 6-4 on center court.

Earlier, Marie Buzkova of the Czech Republic became the first player to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
