Rising Zika virus outbreak in Kerala, 23 people infected so far; Know its symptoms. Four more people have been found infected with the Zika virus in Kerala.

These include a doctor working in a private hospital and a 16-year-old girl. Including two other people, the number of people infected with this virus has increased to 23.

State Health Minister Veena George said that a 16-year-old girl resident of Thiruvananthapuram has been found infected with the Zika virus.

Her sample was tested at the local Rajiv Gandhi Biotechnology Center, in which she was found positive. The minister said that a doctor of a private hospital has also been found infected.

A Coimbatore-based laboratory tested the sample of the 38-year-old doctor who confirmed he was found infected with the virus.

Apart from this, two other infected include a woman. He said that people need to be extremely cautious, as the cases of the Zika virus are increasing in the state.

The minister said that of the persons whose samples were tested, one was found infected with dengue and all the other 13 samples showed no virus infection in any of them.

Let us inform you that the first case of the Zika virus was confirmed in Kerala on 9 July. A high alert has been issued in all districts regarding the mosquito-borne virus.

The government has made arrangements for Zika virus testing at Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Kozhikode medical colleges and the Alappuzha unit of the National Institute of Virology (NIV).

This virus is spread by the bite of the Aedes mosquito. Its symptoms are similar to those of dengue, which include fever, skin rash, and joint pain.

Infection with the Zika virus during pregnancy can cause babies to be born with microcephaly and other congenital malformations, known as congenital Zika syndrome.

Infection with the Zika virus is also associated with other pregnancy complications, including premature birth and miscarriage.
