Retired Military Officers Demand Action On Lies Being Spread

Retired military officers demand action on lies of Muslim regiment being posted on social media networking sites Facebook-Twitter.

120 retired military officers have written to President Ram Nath Kovind saying that a lie is being spread on the social media platform Facebook and Twitter that a Muslim regiment of the Indian Army refused to fight in the war against Pakistan in 1965.

The letter has sought to investigate the matter and take fair, strict, and immediate action against the spreaders by making this post.

The letter, also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, stated that such posts containing Muslim regiments are completely false as the Indian Army did not have a 1965 or ever Muslim regiment.

The letter has been signed by former Naval Chief Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas, Lieutenant General (Retd) Ramdas Mohan, Lt Gen (Retd) RK Nanavati, Lt Gen (Retd) Vijay Oberoi, and many other officials.

According to the letter, this post is being spread by anti-country forces which will adversely affect the security of the country and the morale of the countrymen. A former official even went on to say that the post was being spread by the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.

A post that went viral on social media claimed that the Indian Army once used to have a Muslim regiment, which was banned because it refused to fight during the India-Pakistan war.

Actually, there was never a Muslim regiment in the Indian Army, so it is bogus to claim that any such regiment was disbanded. In our investigation, this proved to be propaganda against the particular community.

This is not the first time a rumor has been raised about the existence of such a regiment in the army. Even before this rumor went viral on social media, then ANN investigated this claim.

In our investigation, this claim was proved to be fake and fabricated. In fact, there was never such a regiment in the army and no regiment is formed in the Indian Army on the basis of religion.
