State leaders had been barricading against him since then, but Narayanasamy won the trust of the first family of the Congress during his tenure as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office during the UPA government in Delhi.

Hence, the clout of Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka against the siege of local leaders proved to be a boon for Narayanasamy. Even in the next election, Rahul had declared Narayanasamy as the chief ministerial candidate.

This gave rise to the patience of the Congress leaders waiting for their turn and culminated in the fall of the Congress government a few months before the election.

Geographically and politically Puducherry may not be a small and complete state, but there is an old history of factionalism in Congress.

Due to Narayanasamy’s increasing grip, the party’s former state unit president and Public Works Minister A.K. Leaders like Namasivayam joined the BJP in January this year.

Not only that, but leaders like E. Thimpayan also joined him. This sequence shows that even though the Narayanasamy government had lost its trust, the trust of his own people had begun to be raised much earlier.
