Questions Raised On Eid al-Adha Exemption In Kerala

Questions raised on Eid al-Adha exemption in Kerala, hearing again today in the matter of relaxation in lockdown.

The petition filed against the relaxation of restrictions related to the lockdown on the occasion of Bakrid will be heard in the Supreme Court today amid increasing cases of Corona in Kerala.

The top court has issued a notice to the state government seeking its response. The Kerala government has announced relaxation in the lockdown restrictions for three days in view of Bakrid.

Delhi resident PKD Nambiar has filed an intervention application in the suo motu case already taken by the Supreme Court in relation to the decision of the Uttar Pradesh government on the Kanwar Yatra.

It said that despite the dissatisfaction expressed by the apex court over the travel during the Corona period, the Kerala government is negligent in relaxing the norms of Kovid-19.

The Kerala government has announced a relaxation of lockdown restrictions on 18, 19, and 20 July keeping in view the upcoming Bakrid festival.

Questions raised on Eid al-Adha exemption: Senior advocate Vikas Singh will appear in the apex court on behalf of the petitioner.

Nambiar argued that the number of Covid cases in Kerala is increasing continuously. In such a situation it can be dangerous to give approval for the festival.

“It is shocking that in a medical emergency, the state government is playing with the lives of citizens through such measures,” the petition said.

This move of the government is in complete violation of the order of July 16 passed by this court.

On July 16, the top court had asked the Uttar Pradesh government to reconsider its decision on the Kanwar Yatra in view of a possible third wave of the corona.

Zika Virus: Two more Zika positives were found in Kerala, 37 total cases.

Two more people in Kerala have tested positive for the Zika virus. The total number of cases of infection has increased to 37, out of which seven are active.

State Health Minister Veena George said in a statement on Monday that a 41-year-old woman from Kattaikonam in Thiruvananthapuram and a doctor from Kumarapuram have tested positive.

The minister said that the virus was confirmed in the lab of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. He said that the health of the infected people is still satisfactory.

On July 16, State Revenue Minister K. Ranjan and George had a meeting.

In the meeting, it was decided to work closely with the local government department and do sanitization work at the ward level to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Dr. Rajalakshmi, Senior Consultant, Kimshealth Hospital said that many people reported common symptoms of Zika virus-like fever, rash, and red eyes.

We were receiving complaints of rashes and fever from patients since April. I would say it peaked around May, right after the monsoon season.

But since the coronavirus was also at its peak at that time, we were doing teleconsultation and due to this such patients were not able to come to the OPD.

He further said that we sent some samples for the test of dengue, chikungunya, and measles but all the results were negative. I think many people had mild cases and did not come to the hospital.

According to Dr. Nias, who treated the first patients infected with Zika virus, Zika virus management and treatment is simple and easy. However, in pregnant women, it can cause fetal malformations.
