Know who is challenging the 15 assembly seats of the Medinipur district of Bengal.

A total of 15 assembly seats in the West Medinipur district will be voted on in the first and second phases (March 27 and April 1). Here the campaign is on, candidates’ visits and public meetings of big leaders are on.

In the first phase, polling will be held on March 27 in Kharagpur Rural, Gadwetta, Shalabani, Medinipur, Keshiari, and Dantan, while the remaining nine seats will go to polls on April 1.

In the 2016 assembly elections, the Trinamool won its seat by winning 13 of the 15 seats here, while in the subsequent by-elections in two seats, the Trinamool occupied the remaining two seats.

In the last assembly election, the Left Front was the main contestant on all the seats, but after the saffron wave in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the situation has changed here.

This time there is a tough face-to-face battle between TMC and BJP in all these seats. The CPM is in a position to make the contest triangulated only on select seats.
