A senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) functionary said on Monday that the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee may represent the party in the meeting of opposition parties.

The meeting is convened by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on June 21 regarding the upcoming presidential election.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is unlikely to attend the meeting due to her pre-scheduled schedule.

The TMC office-bearer said, “The Chief Minister has asked Abhishek Banerjee to attend the meeting. He was also present with Mamata Banerjee in the last meeting of the opposition on June 15.

In a meeting called by Mamata Banerjee in Delhi in June to chalk out a strategy for the upcoming presidential election, it was decided to “uphold the democratic values ​​of the country”.

The candidate will be chosen as the candidate of the opposition. 17 parties participated in the meeting.

Leaders of Congress, the Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party, DMK, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and the Left attended the meeting.

While Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), AIMIM, and Biju The Janata Dal (BJD) thought it appropriate to keep a distance from it.

Shiv Sena, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M), CPI-ML, National Conference, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Janata Dal (Secular).

Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Indian Union Muslim League, Rashtriya Lok Dal, And the leaders of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha also attended the meeting.

The term of the current President Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 24 and the election for his successor is to be held on July 18.
