Officials said the accused persons would be produced in a local court.

He further said that they are also investigating the possibility of a Kerala registration vehicle used in the incident.

Young BJP worker Praveen Nettaru, riding a bike, was attacked with deadly weapons by unidentified persons in Bellare, Dakshina Kannada late on Tuesday evening.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra casts doubt on PFI and SDPI.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra, while giving a statement on the incident, said that the involvement of the extremist Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political wing Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) is suspected.

He further said that the state and central governments are considering banning the organizations. However, organizations cannot be restricted on the basis of one incident.

He said that although the groups were banned in other states, they have got a stay from the courts against the ban. Araga Gyanendra said that Praveen was a very good person and was loyal to the party.

Taking a jibe at the Congress, Gyanendra said that, unlike the BJP workers who dedicated their lives to the service of the country, there are salaried workers in Congress.

Praveen Nettaru’s mother on Wednesday demanded the death penalty for the culprits.

Nettaru’s mother said, “I am not well. His father is also a heart patient. The culprits should be punished, whoever did this should be hanged.”

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai assured that justice would be given to the victim’s family and those who committed the heinous act would not be spared.

Bommai said, “We will not rest till the criminals who instigate social unrest and discord and commit the heinous act are crushed.”

Bommai also announced the cancellation of the ‘Janotsav’ convention on Wednesday following tension across the state over the death of a BJP worker.

Bommai made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday night.
