Pakistan Prepares To Make Gilgit-Baltistan Fifth State

Pakistan prepares to make Gilgit-Baltistan the fifth state under pressure from China. The army is working on the path of making the Gilgit-Baltistan area the fifth state in Pakistan. Due to this effort, the proportion of the population is being changed by settling outsiders there.

These views came from political activists and experts in the area in a webinar organized on Pakistan’s attempt to make Gilgit-Baltistan the fifth state.

The webinar was organized by the United Kashmir People’s National Party on the sidelines of the 45th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Pakistan also wants to let India remove Article 370.

Party chief Shaukat Ali Kashmiri said, “According to the constitution of Pakistan, no army general can call nor attend a political party meeting.” But Pakistan Army Chief General Bajwa recently summoned several leaders of opposition parties to Army Headquarters and told them about the proposal to make Gilgit-Baltistan the fifth state.

Opposition leaders were told that their MPs should not oppose the bill coming to Parliament in this regard. On behalf of the army, this was a kind of warning to the opposition parties, in which the threat of the consequences would be disguised if they did not listen.

Warrant issued for the arrest of Shahbaz Sharif, the leader of the main opposition party, and the arrest of several other opposition leaders were signs of this vicious cycle.

After this, the Government of Pakistan Minister Ali Amin Ballapur announced that the government was starting the process to make Gilgit-Baltistan the fifth state.

Kashmiri said Prime Minister Imran Khan may soon make an announcement in this regard by visiting the area. While this step of Pakistan would be completely illegal. This would be a violation of the state subject rule.

Pakistan has already transformed the region from an autonomous region to a semi-autonomous region. Now his preparation is to make him his fifth province. By doing so, Pakistan wants India to respond to the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

Junaid Qureshi, director of the European Foundation for South Asian Studies, said in the webinar, Pakistan tried vigorously to take India’s step to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir but it was supported by none other than three countries. But now China is plotting to make Gilgit-Baltistan the fifth state of Pakistan so that their business interests are protected.
