Pakistan Is Trying To Do Damage Control On Afghanistan In UN

Pakistan is trying to do damage control on Afghanistan in the United Nations General Assembly.

The Imran Khan-led neighboring country has faced a lot of criticism for its coercive interference in the management of the pro-Pakistan government in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has started the exercise of doing damage control to save its reputation.

Criticism about Pakistan’s role.

Islamabad’s response includes a major diplomatic offensive at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), to counter its widely-loved notion of terror.

Pakistan is facing criticism not only because it played a role in the formation of the caretaker government of Afghanistan.

But also for ensuring the deployment of top leaders of the Haqqani network, who are internationally known as terrorists.

Pakistan may send a large delegation of about 40 diplomats.

Now under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has come in the posture of damage control, Pakistan can send a large delegation of about 40 diplomats to New York.

Highly placed sources say that the Pakistani delegation will be led by Imran Khan, accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood.

Top of the agenda is the bilateral meetings to be held from September 21-24.

It is believed that Pakistan is trying to hold bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of global superpowers America, China, and Russia.

Apart from this, he wants to hold similar meetings with Islamic countries Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. According to sources, Pakistan is also keen to meet with the UK and Maldives.

Maldives is soon going to get the presidency of UNGA for a month. This month the UNGA is chaired by Ireland.

According to the current President of the UNGA, Volkan Bozkir, 83 heads of state will attend the 76th session of the UNGA beginning on 14 September.

The face-to-face meeting assumes significance this year as the previous session had to be converted into an online meeting due to the pandemic.

In the next few months, many countries of Europe are going to get this opportunity. Although America has urged the UN to avoid unnecessary overcrowding in the meeting in view of the threat of Corona.

This time the session is expected to be very hectic with the participation of the heads of state of more than 80 countries.
