Ordnance Factory Day: The objective of Ordnance Factories is to generate self-sufficiency in the field of defense production.

The Ordnance Factories Board is said to be the fourth weapon of India’s defense sector. The remaining three are weapons, navy, air force, and army.

It not only supplies arms to the armies, but it also caters to other wishes of the customers including ammunition, weapons, mine-protected vehicles, bulletproof vehicles, clothing in relation to the State Police Force and Central Paramilitary Forces.

Ordinance imparts knowledge of general awareness about the essence of the Ordinance Zone across India on Factory Day.

The common people are also welcomed at the grand ceremony, where they can watch the exhibition, parade. Ordinance factories have an important role in the security of the country

It is one of the top-50 manufacturers of defense devices in the world.

The board is engaged in the testing, production, research, development, raw materials, and marketing of products in the field of land, sea, and air. Indian ordinance factories provide their products to all three armies of India.

Weapon parts, Parachutes, chemicals and Explosives, Weapons, and Ammunition are exported to 30 countries of the world.

The Ordnance Factory Board laid its foundation in the year 1775 with the headquarters at the Ordnance building in Kolkata.

It is the oldest industrial organization run by the Government of India and the largest productive organization in the world run by the government.

The history of Indian Ordnance Factories is directly linked with British rule in India. The East India Company considered military hardware to be an important element in India to increase its political strength and protect its economic interests.

In the year 1775, the East India Company praised the foundation of the Board of Ordnance at Fort William, Kolkata. It represents the official commencement of the Indian Army Ordinance.

The objective of the Ordnance Factories is to generate self-sufficiency in the field of defense production and to create awareness about ammunition and weapons among the general public.
