Operation Kaveri was extremely dangerous – External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told what happened in the rescue mission.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar (EAM S Jaishankar) said on Sunday that India had just completed “Operation Kaveri”, through which about 4,000 Indians were evacuated from Khartoum, Sudan.
He said the operation was not just a one-time rescue mission but one of the most complex and dangerous.
In a video shared on his Twitter, Jaishankar recounted what really happened during Operation Kaveri.
To keep the stranded Indians from harm, he said, the central government did not release too many details to the public.
The foreign minister said 11-12% of those rescued and returned were from Karnataka. What happened during Operation Kaveri?
The Union Foreign Minister said: “We have just completed Operation Kaveri; Somehow, if some people are still stuck, we’ll work harder but remember that Operation Kaveri isn’t a one-time mission, it’s a particularly complex one.

We hesitate to talk about it publicly because I fear that if we expose the plight of our people there, they will be in danger.
Appreciating the efforts of the Indian Embassy team that stayed in Khartoum until all the stranded civilians were evacuated, Jaishankar said there were other embassies that left immediately when the fighting started.
“But our embassy was blocked because of Indians. Even after all the Indians have left, our embassy is still under lockdown.
The Ambassador and the delegation felt responsible and said they would help because people are still trapped in many places.
When the ceasefire was broken, I also told them that their lives were in danger and asked them to move elsewhere.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also spoke about the challenges faced by the rescue team.
Citing an example of a flight from Wadi Sayyedna made with great risk, he said there was no suitable runway and a plane had been shot down earlier in that area.
