NIA Investigates Manipur Violence: Amid ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur, the NIA takes over three FIRs related to recent violence. The central government deploys 5,000 additional personnel and reviews the situation to curb tensions. Schools remain closed till November 19. NIA will investigate the latest incidents of violence in Manipur, and three FIRs registered. The situation went out of control due to protests and violence after the bodies of women and children were recovered in Manipur, which has been battling ethnic conflict since May last year. On Saturday night, angry mobs set fire to the houses of three more BJP MLAs and a Congress MLA in various districts of Imphal Valley.
Three cases have been filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in relation to the most recent violent episodes in Manipur, which is engulfed in strife. Official sources revealed on Monday that these cases, originally registered by the Manipur Police, were registered by the anti-terrorism agency on November 13 and investigation into these cases has started.
The central government reviewed the situation in Manipur by holding a meeting with senior officials of the Home Ministry and security agencies and directed them to take necessary steps to prevent fresh violence and reduce tension.
Sources said that other top officials including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka may attend this meeting.
At the same time, Amit Shah held a meeting with officials regarding Manipur today. The central government has decided to send an additional 50 CAPF companies with more than 5,000 personnel to Manipur. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sent 20 additional CAPF companies, 15 from CRPF and five from BSF to the state.
The Manipur administration declared the closure of colleges and universities, including state universities, in a number of districts amid the curfew that was imposed in Imphal West and Imphal East. All schools, and colleges in Imphal will remain closed till November 19.
