NIA arrested 17 activists of SDPI and PFI: Bengaluru violence.

The agency NIA said in a statement that the investigation has revealed that social media platforms like Facebook ,Instagram , Whatsapp were used to spread panic among people.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Monday that 17 leaders and activists of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI) have been arrested in connection with the Bengaluru Violence on August 11.

So far 187 people have been arrested in this case.

The NIA said in a statement that Mohammad Sheriff, president of the Bangalore district unit of SDPI, and Imran Ahmed, chairman of the SDPI’s KG Halli ward.

They both had meetings with Thanisandra and KG Halli ward in Bengaluru on the evening of August 11.

The NIA said that they had conspired in the meetings and led the mob gathered at the KG Halli police station to attack the policemen, causing damage to the common people and vehicles of the police station.

Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp were used

Similarly, the chairman of the Nagwara ward of SDPI, Abbas, had gathered a large number of people at the KG Halli police station with the help of his colleagues.

The agency said in a statement that investigations have revealed that social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp were used to spread panic among people and collect them.

3,000 to 4,000 people vandalized and set arson

Significantly, about 3,000 to 4,000 people vandalized and set fire to the residences of Congress MLA R Akhand Srinivas Murthy and his sister Jayanti in Pulakeshinagar over allegedly provocative social media posts by the relative of the MLA.

He also set fire to Devara Jeevanahalli and Kadugondanahalli (KG) police stations. Three people were killed in police firing while one died due to a stomach injury.
