New Zealand’s Hopes Of Reaching The Semi-finals Got A Setback

New Zealand’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals got a setback after being defeated by England: ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.

New Zealand’s hopes of reaching the knockout rounds have suffered a setback after a 1 wicket loss in a thrilling match against England.

Batting first, New Zealand’s team scored 203 runs thanks to Maddy Green’s 52 and Sophie Devine’s 41, but could not stop the England team.

England chased down the target of 204 runs in the 48th over for the loss of 9 wickets. For England, captain Heather Knight scored 42 while Natalie Sciver scored 61 runs.

In the last few overs, the England team was shaken and they lost 5 wickets within 20 runs but in the end, they did not let their hopes of reaching the semi-finals be over by registering a 1 wicket win.

With this defeat, New Zealand, led by Sophie Devine, has won only 2 of the 6 matches, while they have lost 4. Now the team will need a miracle in the last match to make it to the last four.

The team’s last match will be against Pakistan on 26 March. New Zealand will have to win this match by a very big margin, which will not be so easy for them.

After the match against England, Captain Devine said that we are proud of our girls. We were 30-40 runs behind.

She said that 2-3 matches have been lost by the team by a small margin. If we could have won that match, we would not have had to think of such things now.

England, on the other hand, kept their knockout hopes alive by registering two consecutive wins. England registered their first win by defeating the Indian women’s team by 4 wickets.

England’s next two matches are on 24 March and 27 March respectively. On March 24, the team will play with Pakistan and on March 27 against Bangladesh.
