New Zealand Captain Latham Scored A Double Century

New Zealand captain Latham scored a double century with 34 fours, 2 sixes, making a big record.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham scored a blistering double century in the second match of the two-match series being played against Bangladesh.

On the basis of this innings, the team declared the first innings at 521 for 6 wickets.

The Kiwi captain made the record for the highest individual score at this ground with a knock of 252 runs at Headingley Oval.

On Monday, New Zealand’s team tightened its grip against Bangladesh on the second day of the match. After a strong double century, the hosts declared their first innings.

After this, on the basis of the lethal bowling of Trend Boult, Bangladesh was forced to follow the first innings for just 126 runs.

Although a decision has not been taken on whether the follow-on will be given or not, after the lead of 395 runs, the hosts will definitely want to give it.

Captain Latham’s big innings.

The Kiwi captain scored a double century while playing ahead of 185 runs on the second day of the match. This was the second double century of his Test career.

During this, he set a personal record for the highest score in Christchurch. He scored 252 runs in 373 balls with the help of 34 fours and 2 sixes.

This is the highest individual score on this ground. Earlier this record was held by the regular Test captain of the Kiwis, Kane Williamson.

He scored 238 runs against Pakistan last year. Former captain Brendon McCullum scored 195 here while Latham himself scored 176 here in 2018.

150 runs against an Asian team.

Latham has scored above 150 against an Asian team for the sixth time. He has come jointly to second place in this matter.

In the first place are former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and current England captain Joe Root. Both the batsmen have done this 7 times.

Latham has moved up to the second place with former captain Brendon McCullum.

250 maker opener

Latham also got his name written in the list of openers who played an innings of 250 or more runs as an opener.

Indian legend Virender Sehwag had done so four times while England legend Alastair Cook, West Indies’ Chris Gayle, Australia’s David Warner, South Africa’s Graeme Smith, and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya have scored above 250 runs in Tests twice.
