Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal with a throw of 84.52 meters, the tricolor waved in South Africa. Two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra started his 2025 season with a win at the Potchefstroom Invitational Tournament in South Africa on Wednesday, April 16. Indian javelin star Neeraj won the gold medal by topping the six men’s players in the Potchefstroom Invitational Track Event.

Neeraj Chopra made a best throw of 84.52 meters. He finished ahead of 25-year-old South African javelin thrower Dou Smit. Neeraj looked in good shape in his first few competitive throws of the 2025 campaign.

Neeraj Chopra won gold

Only Neeraj and Dou were able to cross the 80-meter mark in the men’s javelin final on Wednesday. While Neeraj’s throw was less than his personal best of 89.94 meters, Dou Smit came close to his record of 83.29 meters.

Neeraj Chopra Wins Gold in South Africa: Doha Diamond League from 16 May

It is worth noting that Neeraj’s next big event is the Doha Diamond League on May 16, where he will face tough competition. In the 2024 Paris Olympics, Neeraj won the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters, while Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal with a new Olympic record of 92.97 meters.
