The soldiers reiterated the Buddhist-dominated Myanmar nationalists’ view that the Rohingya was not its ethnic group. Halang said that after becoming independent from Britain in 1948, the name Rohingya emerged.

At the same time, Myanmar’s deposed leader Aung San Suu has personally appeared in the court on Monday for the first time after the military coup.

According to a Myanmar media report, Min Ki Soi, a lawyer for Suu Kyi, said that she has appeared for a hearing in a special court in the City Council building on Monday.

The lawyers have also met Win Mint, who was president in the elected government, and Suu Kyi State Counselor of the same government.
