Myanmar Coup, India Alerts Its Four North-Eastern States

The Union Home Ministry has directed the four northeastern states of Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur as well as the Assam Rifles to take appropriate steps to prevent the arrival of refugees from Myanmar.

Deputy Secretary (Home) Krishna Mohan Uppu has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries of these four states and the Director-General of Assam Rifles to alert all security and intelligence agencies to identify illegal migrants and return them immediately, an official said. The sending process can be started.

In a letter written on March 10, Uppu says that the foreign branch of the ministry had also issued instructions to the chief secretaries on February 28 in which security and intelligence agencies had to identify illegal migrants, ban them at certain places according to legal regulations.

States were asked to initiate legal proceedings, including obtaining biographic and biometric data, falsifying and repatriating fake Indian documents.

Let me tell you that there has been a continuous protest since the military coup in Myanmar. People are very angry about the coup. The army is making every effort to rein in these protests.

Several incidents of firing on protesters have also come to light in the past. According to reports, more than 70 people have lost their lives in the protests so far.

In such a situation, some people of Myanmar may also think of taking refuge in India. Therefore, India has alerted the respective states.

Strong security arrangements on Manipur border, CM Biren Singh said – no information about the arrival of Myanmar residents in the state.

The Chief Minister of Manipur has clearly stated that as of now there is no news of the arrival of Myanmar residents in his state.

CM N. Biren Singh said that we have made adequate security arrangements at the border and made everyone alert.

Also, however, the matter is a bilateral issue (between India and Myanmar) and the state government cannot take any action on the issue.

These states are bordered by Myanmar.
