Minorities Rights Day 2020: Minorities Rights Day is observed every year on 18 December to focus on the rights of minorities in India and to spread awareness about it.

Let us tell you that many measures have been taken to identify the minorities living in India. Minorities living in the country are caste based, religion based and language based.

However, equal rights have been given to every person in the constitution of the country. The constitution also provides legal provisions to protect the rights of all minorities.

This day is to protect the rights of those who are socially and economically deprived irrespective of their culture, caste and community.

Minority Rights Day in India is celebrated by the National Commission for Minorities.

Significantly, on 18 December 1992, the United Nations broadcast and adopted a statement on the rights of a person related to ethnic minorities, apart from linguistic and religious.

The UN declaration highlights the national identity of minorities in addition to their national, religious, cultural and linguistic identity.

In the Indian Constitution, giving directions to the states, the State Governments have been asked to improve the status of minorities present in them and protect their rights.

Apart from this, guidelines have also been given to the state governments to create awareness on the rights of minorities among the people.

On 29 January 2006, the Ministry of Minority of India was separated from the Ministry of Environment and Social Justice to be a first ministry.

It was intended that the Ministry could focus fully on the issues related to minorities of various religions and sects residing in the country and solve their problems.

In addition to coordinating, evaluating, and developing regulatory framework and development for this ministry, it also reviews overall policy and planning.

In India, the Center established the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the National Minorities Commission Act, 1992.

Let me tell you that there are five such religious communities in India which have been notified as minority communities.

These include Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, and Parsi communities. State Minorities Commissions have also been set up in various states of the country.

These include Delhi, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Paschim Banga, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand.

The major task of the State Minorities Commission is to protect the laws enacted by the States for these people.
