Ministry Of Commerce And Industry Focus On Production

Ministry of Commerce and Industry focus on Production. Now children will play with toys made in India, not from China; Manufacturers focus on production except import.

Indian children will now play with toys made entirely in India, not in China. Preparations are going on vigorously in this direction.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is likely to ban the import of toys from China altogether. A few months ago, the duty on toys imported from China was increased by 200 percent, which has led to a decrease in toy imports from China.

Imported toys account for 85 percent of India’s toy business, and China accounts for 85-90 percent of this 85 percent.

According to government data, the toy business in India was worth $ 1.75 billion in the year 2019, which can reach the level of $ 3.3 billion by 2023. The world’s toy market is worth $ 90 billion and India’s share in this market is negligible.

What is plan

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has also placed toy production in the core sector. There are plans to form several clusters in the country to encourage toy manufacturing.

The import ban will force Indian toy manufacturers to make toys domestically, which will accelerate toy manufacturing. The Government of Karnataka has also announced the Koppal Toy Cluster where an investment of Rs 5000 crore is expected in the next five years.

There are plans to form clusters for the manufacture of special types of toys in Kondapalli in Andhra Pradesh, Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, Dhubri in Assam, and Benares in Uttar Pradesh.

The Uttar Pradesh government is also offering land for the expansion of the toy cluster in Greater Noida.

Focus on manufacturing except import

Importers are now turning to manufacturing again after the duty on imports from China was increased from 20 percent to 60 percent.

Delhi-based toy manufacturer and importer Gajinder Chhabra said that the impact of the hike in duty and the environment against China is beginning to show.

In the last 10 years, toy manufacturers have become completely importers. Now they have started manufacturing again. This time toy manufacturers are also increasing their quality so that consumers are not disappointed.

Toy producers said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special focus on the toy industry has encouraged the entire toy business.

According to the ministry, the new education policy talks about learning through Indian toys in schools. An attempt will be made to convey the Indian tradition to children through toy.

Toy makers said that keeping in mind these things, preparations have started for the manufacture of toys.

However, some manufacturers said that the government needs to accelerate cluster construction so that India can make its presence felt in the world toy market as soon as possible.
