The first incident happened in the province of Balochistan when a bus carrying 70 people lost control while traveling on the Makran Coastal Highway. At least 11 people were killed and 35 others were injured in the accident. The bus was bringing back Shia pilgrims from Iran to Punjab province.
The Makran Coastal Highway is a 653-km long national highway that stretches from Karachi in Sindh province to Gwadar in Balochistan province along the Arabian Sea coast of Pakistan. According to police sources, most of the passengers involved in the accident were from Lahore or Gujranwala.
Hours later, a bus carrying 35 people fell into a gorge in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing 26 people and injuring three others.
According to sources, the cause of the accident, which took place in the hilly terrain, is yet to be ascertained. Sadhonoti Deputy Commissioner Umar Farooq said the deceased included children, women, and men and all belonged to the Sadhonoti district. Police, administration, and rescue teams are present at the spot. Police said some of the people have been identified.
