Manipur violence updates: After the imposition of President’s rule in Manipur, security forces have demolished five illegal bunkers, and civilians have surrendered 42 firearms across five districts. The Governor has extended the deadline to deposit illegal weapons until March 6.

5 firearms including two pistols, six grenades and more than 75 cartridges have been surrendered in Bishnupur district and 17 country-made guns, 9 pompis and cartridges have been surrendered in Kaimai police station of Tamenglong district.

According to the police officer, 10 firearms and cartridges have been surrendered in Yaingangpokpi, Porompat, Churachandpur and Lamsang police stations. Security forces have demolished two illegal bunkers at Mark Hill in Kangpokpi district. Three other illegal bunkers have also been destroyed in the Wakan hill range.

Manipur violence updates: A large quantity of weapons recovered

During a search operation in Sairmkhul in Imphal West district, a magazine filled with 20 rounds of ammunition, an INSAS LMG, an AK-56 rifle, three SLR rifles, an SMG 9mm carbine, a .303 rifle, a DBBL gun, four grenades without detonators, a Chinese hand grenade and other items have been seized.

Governor gave an ultimatum to deposit weapons

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on February 20 had given an ultimatum to deposit the looted and other illegal weapons from the groups involved in the violence within seven days. After this, the people living in the Imphal valley and the hills demanded additional time. Later the Governor extended the deadline to deposit the weapons till March 6. Within seven days, more than 300 firearms have been deposited by the public in the valley districts.
