Manipur CM Biren Singh wants to remove AFSPA with the consent of the Center.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday said that the people of his state and he himself want the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) to be repealed.
However, Chief Minister said that this work should be done with the consent of the central government.
Describing national security as the top priority, Biren Singh said that our state is a border area.
It shares its international border with Myanmar. I have to look into national interests as well.
It is noteworthy that before the assembly elections in the state, the demand for the removal of AFSPA has started gaining momentum.
Manipur CM Biren Singh wants to remove AFSPA: CM said in an interview, “Along with me, the people of Manipur also want that AFSPA should be removed from the state.”
But, this work should be done by mutual consent with the Central Government. This is not possible without assessing the ground situation.
On the law and order situation in the state, Biren Singh said that no major untoward incident has been reported in the last five years and incidents of rebellion have come down by 90 percent.
That’s why I think AFSPA can be phased out with the consent of the central government.
Manipur CM Biren Singh wants to remove AFSPA: BJP will exert full force for a two-thirds majority.
Confident of retaining power in the upcoming assembly elections, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Sunday that this time the BJP is trying to get a two-thirds majority on its own.
He, however, said a post-poll alliance could be done if needed. He said he was sure that the work of his government for five years would get the support of the voters.
