Malegaon Blast Verdict: NIA Court Says ‘Terrorism Has No Religion’

Malegaon Blast Verdict: The NIA court acquitted all accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast, stating terrorism has no religion and no one can be convicted without concrete evidence.

‘Terrorism has no religion’, the court made strong comments in the Malegaon Blast Case. The NIA court has given a big verdict in the case of the horrific 2008 Malegaon blast. The court has acquitted all the accused, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit.

On 29 September 2008, six people were killed and many were injured when an explosive allegedly kept on a motorcycle exploded near a mosque in Malegaon city, Nashik. The court said that terrorism has no religion, because no religion advocates violence.

The court also made it clear that the prosecution was able to prove the blast, but could not prove that a bomb was kept in the motorcycle. Apart from this, there was also a discrepancy in the number of injured. The court found that the number of injured people was not 101, but 95, and some medical certificates were manipulated.

Compensation to victims

The court has ordered to give Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the families of the six people killed in the blast and Rs 50,000 to all the injured victims. The court said in its decision that no one can be punished based on mere perception or moral evidence. This requires solid evidence, which the prosecution was unable to present in this case.
