Kerala local body elections 2020 live updates: 7.05 percent polling till 9 am.
The first phase of local body elections in Kerala has started on Wednesday at 7 am in five districts.
Elections are being held on December 8 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Idukki. In the first hour, 6.81% of voters in Thiruvananthapuram cast their votes.
As of 8 am, 1,93,411 people have voted. Other districts will hold elections in two phases on December 10 and 14 respectively.
Since 7 am, a good number of voters are reaching the polling booths, who are also following all the protocols of COVID-19. Voters are seen wearing physical distances and wearing masks.

Let there be a total of 11,225 polling stations and 88,26,620 voters, of which 46,68,209 are women, 41,58,341 are men and 70 are transgender.
At the same time, 56,122 election officials are also on duty to conduct the elections properly.
Alappuzha recorded 17 percent polling.
Thiruvananthapuram polled 11.85% till 9:15 am.
In Thiruvananthapuram district, the phase-1 of Kerala local body elections was polled 7.05 percent till 9 am.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala cast his vote in Threeperumthura.
State Election Commissioner V Bhaskaran, who came to Thiruvananthapuram’s Pangod LP School to cast his vote on Wednesday morning, told the media that there is hope that there will be good turnout.
It was informed that an election officer, an assistant and a police officer are facilitating for COVID-19 patients.
Where patients have been arranged to vote after 6 pm when voting for the rest of the voters ends. Officials in the PPE (personal protective equipment) kit will help them cast their votes.
There are 24,583 candidates contesting the first phase in five districts.
Prominent contestants include candidates from three major political fronts, including the CPI-M-led Left Democratic Front (LDF).
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
