Karnataka Governor Approves The Anti-conversion Ordinance

Karnataka Governor approves the anti-conversion ordinance, know how many years the convict is punished: Anti-Conversion Ordinance.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Tuesday approved the ordinance that gives effect to the Karnataka Right to Religious Freedom Bill, 2021.

It is also known as the Anti-Conversion Bill. The bill was passed by the state assembly in December last year but it is pending in the Legislative Council where the ruling BJP does not have a majority.

This is stated in the gazette notification.

Since the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council are not in session and the Hon’ble Governor agrees that circumstances exist which require him to take immediate action to issue an Ordinance.

Karnataka Governor approves the anti-conversion ordinance: The guilty may be sentenced to three years.

The Ordinance states that any converted person, his parents, brother, sister, or any other person having a blood relation, matrimonial relationship with him, or in any way connected with him, may file a complaint on such conversion.

The guilty shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to pay a fine of Rs 25,000.

Restriction on forced religious conversion.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Aragya Janendra said that he is not against any religion. But there is no place in the Constitution for forced religious conversion.

He will strictly enforce this law. With the intention of deterring the Christian community, he said that there is nothing in this proposed law that should curtail anyone’s religious rights.

Earlier, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has made it clear that people of all religious communities need not panic regarding the anti-conversion law.

According to the constitution, people of all religions present in the country are allowed to practice or pray according to their religion.
