Kaali Film Controversy: Controversy Over The Poster

Kaali Film Controversy: Controversy over the poster of the film ‘Kali’, accused of hurting religious sentiments; FIR registered in Delhi and UP.

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR based on a complaint after a poster of filmmaker Leena Manimekalai’s documentary “Kaali” surfaced for hurting religious sentiments.

An advocate had complained to the Delhi Police’s cyber cell against filmmaker Leena Manikellai over the controversial poster of the film.

Following this, the IFSO unit of Delhi Police has registered an FIR under sections 153A and 295A of the IPC in relation to a controversial poster related to the film ‘Kaali’.

In the same episode, the UP Police has also registered an FIR against filmmaker Leena Manimekalai on charges of criminal conspiracy and intentionally hurting religious sentiments over the controversial poster of the film ‘Kaali’.

This poster of the film ‘Kaali’ depicts a woman dressed in a dress, depicting the goddess and smoking. The flag of the gay community is visible in the background.

Some internet media users demanded strict action against the filmmaker. The hashtag Arrest Leena Manimekalai is trending on Twitter.

Delhi advocate Vineet Jindal has complained against Leena for the controversial poster and has demanded a ban on the objectionable photos and clips of the documentary.

In the complaint, he has said that a woman in the guise of Goddess Kali is smoking a cigarette, which is hurting the sentiments and beliefs of the Hindu community.

Cow Mahasabha member Ajay Gautam has also complained to the police against Leena.

Kaali Film Controversy: After facing criticism over the poster, Leena took to Twitter to defend herself.

Urging people to choose ‘love over hate’ amid negative backlash, he said in a tweet that the film revolves around the events of an evening when Kaali appears and walks the streets of Toronto.

If you see the picture, don’t put the hashtag ‘Arrest Leena Manimekalai’ and the hashtag ‘Love you Leena Manimekalai’.

Many movies and shows have been in trouble in the past for hurting religious sentiments. Director Anurag Basu’s ‘Ludo’ faced outrage on Twitter for promoting ‘Hinduphobic’ content in the film.

Last year, Saif Ali Khan-starrer web series ‘Tandav’ courted controversy for creating fears of religious tension by portraying Hindu deities in a bad light.
