Chinese President Xi Jinping has promoted Xu Qiling, the commander of the Western Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), which guards the border with India, to the rank of general.

At a ceremony organized by the Central Military Commission in Beijing, Jinping handed over a certificate of the order bearing his signature to these officers.

China has taken this step amid the continuing standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Xi is also the chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC).

He promoted Shu to the rank of general, the highest rank for officers in China’s military service.

Two other officers have also been promoted to the general rank, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

These include Commander Liu Zhenli of the PLA and Xu Qinseng, Commander of the Strategic Assistance (Missile) Force.

Xu Qiling, who previously held the rank of lieutenant general, was appointed head of the Western Theater Command Ground in June last year.

The Xinhua news agency has described Xu as the commander of the PLA’s Western Theater Command in its report.

There was a military standoff between India and China at several points in eastern Ladakh since the beginning of May last year.

However, the two sides completed the withdrawal of troops and weapons from the north and south shores of Pangong Lake in February after a series of military and diplomatic talks.

India has been pressing for the withdrawal of troops, particularly at Hot Springs, Gogra, and Depsang.

According to military officials, each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the sensitive high altitude area.

China will now monitor the weather from space, has installed a new generation satellite.

China on Monday successfully placed a new generation meteorological satellite in its designated orbit.

The satellite will be used to carry 11 remote sensing payloads and will serve to enhance the country’s ability to accurately forecast weather.

The satellite ‘FY-3E’ was launched on Monday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Tijuana province, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

It was told that the first of China’s new generation meteorological satellite FY-3E will be used in the field of weather analysis and forecasting and monitoring.

The Global Times newspaper reported that this satellite is capable of tracking Asia, the Central Pacific Ocean region, and the Indian Ocean region.

This will increase China’s ability to accurately forecast extreme weather conditions, including storms and cyclones.
