When the police-PLFI encounter in Gumla was true, why would the government give a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the dependent of Naveen Kumar Sahu, who was killed in this encounter.

Jharkhand govt will now go on appeal in the High Court against the order related to compensation by the National Human Rights Commission.

For this, the State Government has also got the intention of the Advocate General. This incident of encounter is from the year 2013. An FIR was registered in this case on March 21, 2013, at Gumla police station.

In Gumla police station, Manoj Sahu of Khori Patra Toli had lodged an FIR against Naveen Kumar Sahu and two other PLFI militants.

The accused had called Manoj Sahu’s elder brother in the name of PLFI Commander Rajesh Tiger and threatened to kill him and burn the car if he did not pay the extortion of two lakh rupees.

On the morning of March 21, 2013, Manoj Sahu’s elder brother reached the place mentioned by the militants with extortion amount.

On running out of money, one of the militants had fired in the air to create panic. Then suddenly the police had reached there.

After the incident, the then SDPO Gumla had prepared Panchnama. The medical board had conducted the post-mortem of the body and its videography was done.

The post-mortem report also confirmed firing from a long distance. The judicial inquiry also confirmed that the police encounter was genuine.

Relatives of the deceased claim – Naveen was a student, police killed

Here, the relatives of the deceased alleged that the police who are claiming to have killed them in the encounter as a PLFI militant, was actually a student and the police have killed him.

The relatives had gone to the National Human Rights Commission by making the same allegation.

After the hearing here, the commission had directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the dependents of the deceased.

Naveen’s father is a farmer. They say that there was talk of giving them compensation, but till now not even a single penny was received. He still hopes that justice will be served.
