Jewar International Airport: Five Runways To Be Constructed

Jewar International Airport: India will compete with China after the completion of the Jewar International Airport. India will compete with China by constructing five runways at this Airport. China has the highest five runways at Shanghai Airport in Asia.

Price Water House Cooper (PwC) will submit a feasibility report on the construction of five runways at JIA to Noida International Airport Company (Niall) in a week. The first phase of Jewar International Airport has two runways to be built.

The state government had instructed Niall to prepare a feasibility report to make it the largest airport in Asia. A feasibility report prepared by PwC states that five runways can be constructed at Jewar International Airport.

Under this, two runways being constructed in the first phase can be constructed in the north direction and another runway and two other runways in the south direction. About three and a half thousand hectares of land will be needed for this.

The northward runway can be used for airplane maintenance, repair, overhauling (MRO). A proposal for land acquisition will be prepared by sending feasibility report to the government.

Five thousand hectares of land in the Yamuna Authority area is reserved for Jewar International Airport. 1334 hectares of land has been acquired for the first phase. The area of ​​the airport can be increased in view of the need in the Master Plan 2041.

Agreement with developer for first phase in October

Zurich Airport International AG will be signed in October for the first phase of Jewar International Airport. Zurich Airport International was selected in November 2019 as a developing company.

The agreement has been delayed due to the shutdown of international air service due to Corona. The airport aims to start air services from 2022-23.

Monitoring of revenue from MRO

The state government and Niall are also eyeing revenue from MRO along with Jewar International Airport. There are also plans to make Jewar Airport a hub of MROs. The Authority has proposed four sectors adjacent to Jewar Airport in the Master Plan 2031.

They have been proposed for electronics, MRO, transport hubs. Considering the potential of MROs, the authority is considering reserving sectors seven, eight and 30 for this.

5 runways can be built at the airport

Dr. Arunvir Singh (CEO Yamuna Authority and Niall) says that a feasibility report has been prepared to increase the number of runways at the International Airport. Five runways can be built at the airport. Land has been acquired for two runways in the first phase.
