ISSF World Cup: India’s Star Shooter Mairaj Khan Created History

ISSF World Cup: India’s star shooter Mairaj Khan created history, and became world champion in skeet.

India’s veteran shooter Mairaj Ahmed Khan created history in the ISSF World Cup on Monday. He won the country’s first gold medal in the men’s skeet event.

In the final of 40 shots, Mairaj of Uttar Pradesh scored 37. The 46-year-old Indian shooter beat Korea’s Minsu Kim (36) and Britain’s Ben Llewellyn (26), making him the world champion.

Hailing from the Bulandshahr district of UP, Mairaj has been representing India in international events for the last 15 years.

During this, he has won medals in Commonwealth Shooting Championships, Asian Championships, and many international events.

Mairaj, a two-time Olympian and the oldest member of the Indian contingent this time in Changwon, won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio World Cup.

Earlier, Anjum Mudgil, Aashi Choksi, and Sift Kaur Samra won the bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle three positions team event.

In the bronze medal match, she defeated Austria’s Shailene Wiebel, Ann Ungerrank, and Rebecca Koeck by 16. defeated by 6. India still topped the medal tally with 13 medals (5 Gold, 5 Silver, and 3 Bronze).

Commonwealth Games: Indian hockey team will win gold for the first time, will give tough competition to Australia

After ending a four-decade medal drought at the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team, which is in scintillating form, is expected to end Australia’s dominance in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

After the inclusion of hockey in the Commonwealth Games, Australia has been completely dominated in the men’s section.

The Kangaroo team has won all six gold medals so far. India’s best performance in these games has been winning silver medals in 2010 (Delhi) and 2014 (Glasgow).

The team has also finished fourth on four occasions.

Under the leadership of Australia coach Graham Reid, India has performed brilliantly over the years and the Olympic medal testifies to that.

In the past, the Indian team has struggled with fitness issues but the current team is considered one of the fittest teams in world hockey. The effect of better fitness is visible in the results.

India finished third in this season’s FIH Pro League behind Belgium and the Netherlands after winning a historic bronze medal in Tokyo.

If Indian players play according to their ability, then the team can fulfill its dream of first gold from Birmingham.
