Islamabad High Court: Government’s responsibility to bring Nawaz Sharif back to Pakistan. The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday lashed out at the Imran Khan-led government, saying it allowed former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to go abroad without informing the court, and it took steps to ensure the latter’s return to the country. Sharif left Pakistan for the United Kingdom for medical treatment in November last year. Additional Attorney General Tariq Mahmood Khokhar told a bench of Justices Amer Farooq and Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, according to Geo News, that Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by the court without delay through the Pakistan High Commission in Britain on 17 September Applied.

Khokhar said a man named Yakub refused to get the warrant. Khokhar said that the High Commission sent him a notice the next day via Royal Mail. Justice Farooq said that the government first named Sharif on the Exit Control List (ECL) and later removed it as well. The government should have at least informed this court. We have to decide on the appeal and we are waiting for the appearance (of the convict). Once the interrogation begins, the suspects’ names have been added to the ECL.

The judge said that even though the (court) has not been informed, permission has been sought about the convict alone being sent abroad. He said that we will not pass an order for the return of a guilty person. You had given him permission to go abroad, so now you have to make sure that you take steps to ensure his return.

Earlier this month, Sharif told the High Court that according to Geo News, it was not possible for him to return to Pakistan and surrender before the court. Sharif informed the court through a review petition against the High Court order, which directed him to surrender before 10 September. The petition was filed by his lawyers – Khwaja Harris and Munawwar Iqbal.
