India's AMCA
India’s AMCA: India launches its indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet program, AMCA, to boost air power and self-reliance amid growing threats from China and Pakistan.
Made in India Fifth Generation Fighter Jet: For this reason, India needs fifth-generation fighter jets.
The production of domestic fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft was authorized by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday.
It is now being developed for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including the lethal stealth UCAV, after being detached from the Tejas program in 2008.. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is already working on the design of its model Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). Currently, only three countries, America, Russia, and China, have fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft. Let us know what fifth-generation aircraft are and why it is important for India to have indigenous aircraft.
What is AMCA
India’s first fifth-generation fighter aircraft will be single-seat and two-engine. It will be equipped with an advanced stealth coating and an internal weapon base. Weapons installed in the internal weapon base are not visible from outside. America’s F-22 and Russia’s SU-57 fighter aircraft have these features. There will be two versions of MCA.
The first version will have the GE 414 engine made in America. The second version will have the indigenous jet engine, which will be more powerful than GE 414. Overall, it will be a multi-role fighter aircraft with supermaneuverable and stealth features.
Possible features: Maximum height, 55,000 fee.t Weapon in internal base, 1,500 kg external, 5,500 kg Fuel capacity, 6,500 kg
Supermaneuverable
This means the ability of the fighter aircraft to make tactical movements. Like suddenly changing direction and attacking another fighter aircraft from different angles. It is not possible to do this with traditional aerodynamics technology.
Stealth
Aircraft, submarines, or missiles equipped with stealth capability do not come under the detection of radar or sonar.
Multirole means that the fighter aircraft can carry out many types of tactical missions. Like air superiority and ground attack, and entering the enemy’s territory and destroying its air defense.
This is called seed operation in the language of the army. Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft Fifth-generation fighter aircraft are the most advanced fighter aircraft, equipped with stealth, supercruise, and digital technologies.

Stealth: The Ability to avoid radar, so the enemy cannot see them easily.
Supercruise: Flying at supersonic speeds (more than Mach 1) without afterburner.
Sensor Fusion: Integrating data from all sensors to give the pilot a complete picture of the battlefield.
Network-centric warfare: Sharing real-time data with other aircraft, drones, and command centers.
Automation and AI: automated target tracking and electronic piloting powered by AI.
The People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAF) has more than 250 J-20 stealth jets. New jets like the J-35 are being developed. The 2020 Ladakh standoff showed that the strength of China’s Air Force can pose a threat to India. Pakistan intends to purchase J-35 fighters from China soon. In the recent Operation Sindoor, India has proved air superiority over Pakistan, but without stealth fighter jets, it will be difficult to do so in the future.
The US has offered to sell India F-35 fighter jets, and Russia has offered to sell its SU-57 fighter jets. India may choose any of these aircraft, but in the changing strategic scenario, India must make an indigenous fighter aircraft.
The US imposes many conditions on its weapons and platforms. At the same time, Russia, which is embroiled in a war with Ukraine, has also limited its defense supply capacity. In such a situation, India is making every effort to achieve self-reliance in the field of defense.

The Kaveri engine is an indigenous turbofan jet engine of India. Under DRDO, the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) is working on its development.. It was started in the late 1980s, and its main purpose was to power the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.
This ambitious project of India is an important step towards making the country self-reliant in the defense sector. It will give power to stealth UAVs. The project, started in the 1980s, was aimed at reducing India’s dependence on foreign engines for its fighter aircraft, but it faced challenges such as a lack of thrust, weight issues, and delays due to sanctions following India’s 1998 nuclear tests.
It is now being developed for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including the lethal stealth UCAV, after being detached from the Tejas program in 2008.
DRDO is testing the indigenously developed Kaveri jet engine in Russia, and it will be used to power the Indian-made long-range unmanned fighter aircraft. About 25 hours of testing are yet to be done on it there.
