Intensive discussions on trade agreement between India and America, Jaishankar said – ‘The impact will be wide’. Jaishankar was asked what would be done to protect the Indian agricultural sector from American agricultural products. To this, his answer was that the people who are discussing are very capable. I am confident that Indian interests will definitely be protected. Intensive discussions have been going on for the last month. Earlier, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had gone to America. Then the talks started.
Talks on the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) between India and America have started in New Delhi. This round of talks is going to continue till Friday this week and it is very possible that before April 2, 2025, an agreement will be reached between the two countries regarding the said trade agreement.
No official statement has come yet regarding the talks started between the two countries, but Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that there is a very intensive discussion on BTA with America. Apart from the US, India is also negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with the UK and the European Union. These three agreements will have a very wide economic impact.
In a program organized by the Asia Society, Jaishankar said that for the first time India is negotiating a trade agreement with three major economic powers. So far, India has largely signed trade agreements with countries located in the eastern part of its geographical area (Japan, South Korea, ASEAN, and Australia).
The countries (Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN) with which FTAs were signed earlier have also been competitors for India, and the experience of these agreements has not been very beneficial for India. But now there are more possibilities with the three countries with which discussions have started for trade agreements. Agreements with these countries will not only have a big economic impact, but will also have an impact on other areas.

Despite the US President’s repeated threats of imposing reciprocal taxes on India, Jaishankar believes that the Trump government’s policies will be beneficial for India in many ways.
First, President Trump is more willing to cooperate with India in defense technology than previous governments. This will establish better quality defense relations between the two countries.
Second, the energy policies of the new US government are very positive for India’s energy security. Trump’s policies stabilize the global energy market.
Third, America’s increasing focus on the big technology sector will also prove to be right for India. Big technology companies recognize the sensitivity of mobility and supply chain
