India To Participate In Shanghai Cooperation Organization Meeting

India to participate in Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting, Jaishankar to participate in talks with Pak and Chinese counterparts: SCO FM Meet.

Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization foreign ministers meeting to be held in Uzbekistan.

Here he will meet his Pakistani counterpart, Bilawal Bhutto. This will be the first time that Jaishankar will meet Bhutto after the formation of the new government in Pakistan.

India will participate in two major meetings in the Foreign Ministers’ meeting to be held in Uzbekistan. The first of these meetings is the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The second meeting will be an international conference on Afghanistan. The conference on Afghanistan will be held on 25 and 26 July, while the External Affairs Minister will meet on 28 and 29 July.

Significantly, after the formation of the new government under the leadership of Shahbaz Sharif in Pakistan, Bilawal expressed his desire to re-establish friendly relations with India.

However, there is no sign of the India-Pakistan bilateral meeting on the sidelines of SCO yet.

As far as talks with Pakistan are concerned, India has consistently maintained that terror and talks cannot go together.

Meanwhile, Jaishankar’s participation in the SCO is yet to be officially announced. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will also attend the meeting.

Jaishankar is likely to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to review the outcome of the recent 16th round of talks between military commanders of India and China to resolve the standoff along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

In such a situation, if bilateral talks take place between the two countries, then the way for a possible meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi can also be cleared.

The two leaders are expected to attend the SCO summit on September 15 and 16 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Jaishankar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Bali, Indonesia on July 7.

In the meeting, Jaishankar called for early resolution of all remaining issues along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

During this, Jaishankar reiterated the need to maintain normalcy in all areas to restore peace in the border areas.
