India Calls for UNSC Reforms
India Calls for UNSC Reforms: India has once again raised the issue of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms, stressing the need for transparency in its decision-making. India’s envoy Parvataneni Harish highlighted concerns over blacklisting terrorist organizations. Meanwhile, Elon Musk criticized India’s exclusion from the UNSC as “nonsense.”
‘There should be more transparency in the functioning of the Security Council’, India again raised the issue of reform. India called for reforms in the Security Council at the United Nations. India’s Permanent Representative Parvataneni Harish stressed the need for more transparency in the functioning of the Council’s subsidiary bodies.
Harish said that details about rejecting or stopping the request to blacklist terrorist organizations are not made public and it is the privilege of only a select few.
He said that its way of functioning needs to be changed immediately. He said that it is time for member countries to take action. It is time to move forward and show results. In this background, I would like to make the following specific points regarding the ways of working.
First of all, the Council needs to connect with the wider membership of the United Nations. He said that a meaningful way to achieve this would be through discussion on the report of the Security Council in the General Assembly. This report should not be just a compilation of facts, but analytical, so that member countries get an opportunity to effectively evaluate the functioning of the Council.

Tesla CEO and owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) Elon Musk has called India not getting a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) ‘nonsense’ and said that countries that have more power than they need do not want to give it up.
He criticized the UNSC and said that India not having a permanent seat in this group is beyond comprehension. Musk was responding to a post by American-Israeli businessman Michael Eisenberg.
Michael had mentioned India on a statement by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. When the UN Secretary General supported a permanent seat for Africa, Michael protested and said, ‘And what about India?’ He said that it would be better if the current UN is dissolved and it comes into existence again with new, real leadership.
