How Was Sheshnag originated?

According to mythology, Kadru and Vinata were the daughters of Daksha Prajapati. Goddess Kadru asked sage Kashyap for a boon of 1000 sons, after which 1000 eggs were born.

The mightiest son among all the sons was Sheshnag. Snakes were born due to the boon of Goddess Kudra, hence she is also known as Nag Mata. Sheshnag is also called by the name Anant.

Because of the grace of Lord Vishnu, no other snake can match Sheshnag.

Sheshnag has received a boon from God that he will not be destroyed even after the destruction of the universe, hence Shesh is prefixed to his name.

The weight of creation rests.

According to another legend, when Sheshnag came to know that his mother and brothers had cheated Goddess Vinata.

He started doing penance on Gandhamadan mountain, pleased with which Brahmaji gave him a boon that his intellect would remain stable.

The earth keeps on moving continuously, so wear it on your hood to stabilize it. Because of this boon, Sheshnag keeps the universe on its hood.
