Hijab Row: Hijab controversy escalated in Mangaluru, Karnataka, college students submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

The hijab controversy has started once again in Karnataka. Muslim girl students of a university in Mangaluru have submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.

The girl students have sought permission to wear the hijab in the classroom. Fatima, a student, said, “Nothing happened after the court’s order.”

We took the exams in a peaceful manner. We recently received an unofficial note for attending classes without a hijab.

We went to the principal with the High Court order and tried to talk to him. He said that he can’t do anything.

Earlier on Thursday, the girl students of the university demonstrated on the campus for their demand.

The girl students slammed the college administration for failing to implement the Karnataka High Court order on hijab inside educational institutions.

Let us inform you that the Karnataka High Court had given an important decision on March 17 regarding wearing hijab in educational institutions.

The High Court dismissed various petitions challenging the ban on hijab in educational institutions.

During the hearing, the High Court observed that wearing a hijab is not a compulsory religious practice of Islam.

The hijab controversy started in January this year.

Hijab protests in Karnataka took place in January-February this year when some girl students of Government Girls PU College in the state’s Udupi district alleged that they were barred from attending classes.

During the protest, some students claimed that they were denied admission to the college for wearing the hijab.

Holding that wearing a hijab is not a necessary religious practice in Islam and freedom of religion is subject to reasonable restrictions under Article 25 of the Constitution.

A full bench of the Karnataka High Court on March 16 dismissed a batch of petitions filed by Muslim girls.

They are demanding the right to wear hijab in classes in pre-university colleges in Udupi.

The court also upheld an order issued by the state on February 5, which suggested that wearing the hijab may be banned in government colleges where the uniform is prescribed.

The court ruled that a school uniform should be one. reasonable restriction’ which is ‘constitutionally acceptable’.
