Hijab-clad Girl Students Were Not Given Entry Into The University

Hijab-clad girl students were not given entry into the University College of Mangaluru, then the controversy deepened: Karnataka Hijab Row.

The hijab controversy in Karnataka seems to be gaining ground once again. A controversy erupted after some students were sent back from their colleges in Mangaluru town of Dakshina Kannada district on Monday.

Twelve hijab-clad girl students of University College in Mangaluru were trying to enter the classrooms but were stopped by the college authorities. She was sent back after she refused to take off her hijab.

Let us inform you that after the protest of hundreds of students against wearing hijab in classes, the closed college has been reopened once again today.

Girls gave a memorandum to DC.

After being denied entry to the classes, the girl students went to the office of Dakshina Kannada District Commissioner (DC) Dr. Rajendra KV to submit a memorandum in this regard.

The students demanded that the DC college management should allow them to wear hijab inside the classrooms.

Karnataka High Court had given an important decision.

Let us tell you that on March 17, the Karnataka High Court banned the wearing of hijab in educational institutions.

The court had dismissed all the petitions challenging the ban on hijab in educational institutions.

The High Court had said in the judgment that wearing a hijab is not a religious practice and hence it cannot be allowed to be worn.

This is the whole matter.

The hijab controversy in Karnataka started in January this year when some hijab-wearing girl students were denied entry to a government girls’ PU college in the state’s Udupi district.

After this, the girls protested against not being allowed to attend the classes. The girl students also approached the Karnataka High Court for this, but the court rejected all the petitions.

The court said that wearing the hijab is not a compulsory religious practice of Islam.
