Due to this, the situation is expected to worsen due to heavy rains across Tamil Nadu. The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rain in Puducherry in the next 24 hours.

The authorities have issued a flood warning for the Theni district and adjoining low-lying areas in Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains.

According to a statement issued by the Meteorological Department, during November 10 to 11, 45 to 55 kmph gusting to wind speed in the southwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal, Bay of Mannar, and coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh.

Strong winds gusting to 65 kmph are likely. In view of this, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

The leading news agency has reported in its report that Tamil Nadu has received more than 50 percent of the normal rainfall since October due to the northeast monsoon.

The water storage in 53 of the 90 major reservoirs of the state has reached 76%. A red alert has been declared for heavy rains in Chennai on November 11.

A red alert for heavy rain has been issued for Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Kallakurichi, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, and Salem for November 11.
