Hearing On Bail Plea Of Fugitive Mehul Choksi

Hearing on bail plea of fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi in Dominica High Court today.

Fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi has once again filed a bail plea in the Dominica High Court in the case of illegal entry into the country.

Choksi has been denied relief in the same case on two earlier occasions. His bail plea will be heard today. Earlier in June, Choksi’s bail plea was rejected by the Dominican magistrate’s court.

He then moved to the Dominica High Court. The High Court had also refused to grant bail.

Earlier, Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt rubbished claims of his government’s involvement in the alleged abduction of fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi.

On May 23, Choksi was allegedly abducted from Antigua and Barbuda and taken to Dominica.

According to ‘Dominica News Online’, Skerritt said in his weekly program ‘Let’s Talk’ that the government will allow the court to complete its proceedings regarding Choksi.

Also assured that Choksi’s rights and obligations will be respected.

The news quoted Skerritt as saying, “The reports of Dominica government and Antigua government colluding with India are complete nonsense.

We never involve ourselves in such acts, activities, not at all. I mean it is absurd and we deny it..’ ‘Would it be fair for a local citizen to kill someone in Dominica and flee to another country,’ he asked.

Instead of apprehending him and sending him back to Dominica to face charges, he should be allowed to roam free.

Skerritt cited a Dominica national wanted by the US in connection with the charges against Choksi, whose extradition proceedings are ongoing in the courts.

Skerritt said the country cannot treat people differently based on how much money they have. “We are all subject to the law, no matter what position we hold or how much money we have or not.

I believe that in such a situation. Dominica has the right to arrest this person and produce him before the court. Let the court decide on it.

Hearing on bail plea of fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi: We’re talking about Choksi here in Dominica, but there’s also a young boy, Grand Bay.

The US government has requested his extradition on charges of committing a crime in St. Thomas and we’re going to catch him,” he said. are obliged to.

Acting on the instructions of the DPP (Director of Public Prosecution), the police arrested the youth and kept him in jail till his extradition hearing.

His lawyers will fight his case. If the courts are convinced that there is no reason to extradite him to the US, he will be released.
