Gupkar alliance will take the final decision on talks with the Center, everyone’s opinion is being taken: PAGD Jammu Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir’s major political parties National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in turmoil after an invitation for an all-party meeting to be held at PM Narendra Modi’s residence on June 24.
NC President and MP Dr. Farooq Abdullah has started brainstorming with his colleagues regarding the proposed meeting.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has been authorized by her party to take a decision in this regard.
But both the parties will give a final call on attending the meeting of the Center only after the meeting of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Tuesday.
However, both the parties are in principle supportive of talks with the central government. People’s Conference’s Sajjad Gani Lone will reach Srinagar on Monday and explain his agenda.
The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh met Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi amid the hustle and bustle of the meeting.
It is believed that the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha informed the Defense Minister about the security arrangements in the Union Territory.
Governor RK Mathur discussed the overall development of Ladakh.
All the parties want that the Center must take some confidence-building steps to create a conducive environment in Kashmir before the talks.
On Sunday, Mehbooba Mufti called a meeting of the Political Consultative Committee on the issue of talks with the Prime Minister.
A senior PDP leader told that in the meeting, a section said that if the agenda of the June 24 meeting is not known, then what will we do there.
If it is on the issue of delimitation and statehood, it does not match with the declared stand of the PDP on the August 5, 2019 decision. So it is better to stay away from the meeting.
On the other hand, a section of the leaders included in the advisory committee said that they should make their point in the meeting.
The dialogue should remain realistic and focused on the interests of Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba said that she will hold a meeting with the constituents of PAGD on Tuesday and take a decision after that.
Gupkar alliance will take the final decision on talks with the Center: Opinion of all leaders in NC being taken.
NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani said that Dr. Farooq Abdullah discussed the issue with senior colleagues on Sunday.
The process will continue till Monday morning. Dr. Farooq will attend the PAGD meeting on Tuesday. After that, there will be an announcement.
However, NC MP Muhammad Akbar Lone said that only the issue of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and Article 370 will be discussed in the meeting.
Former MLA Nirmal Singh will participate in PM’s meeting:
Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Deputy Chief Minister in the BJP-PDP coalition government, will participate in an all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Jammu and Kashmir.
Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has called Dr. Nirmal Singh and invited him to attend the meeting.
Dr. Nirmal Singh will present his opinion on the issues related to Jammu and Kashmir before the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Prime Minister.
CPI(M) said – all the constituents are in favor of talks:
CPI(M) leader and PAGD’s chief spokesperson and convener Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami said that all the constituents are in favor of talks in principle. The final decision will be taken in the PAGD meeting.
Emphasis on raising the issue of statehood: State Congress Committee Jammu and Kashmir President GA Mir held discussions with senior party leaders regarding the all-party meeting.
In the meeting that lasted for about two hours, the leaders asked to raise the issue of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
After Jammu, Mir will hold a meeting in Kashmir for the next two days and discuss with the leaders.
Raman Bhalla, Mularam, Kanta Bhan, Ravindra Sharma, Yogesh Sahni, Abdul Majeed Wani, TS Bajwa, Shah Mohammad Chaudhary, Manmohan Singh, and others attended the meeting.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, however, did not say whether the party would participate in the meeting to be held on June 24.
Surjewala pointed out the Congress Working Committee meeting held on August 6, 2019, in which the party had categorically demanded the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
“We feel that not doing so is a direct attack on democracy and constitutional principles,” he said.
Farooq can represent PAGD! In the meeting of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to be held on Tuesday.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah may be single-handedly entrusted with the responsibility of representing Kashmir in the meeting with the Prime Minister.
Sources associated with PAGD said that PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, after meeting with her colleagues, said that she would take a final decision after the PAGD meeting.
The National Conference has also announced to clarify its stand only after Tuesday’s meeting. Mehbooba would not want her to be accused of weakening Delhi in any way.
So she can refer to her declared stand on J&K Reorganization Act in the PAGD meeting and say that NC is also with her on this issue.
So Farooq should represent PAGD in the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If Farooq does not agree to represent the PAGD alone, Mehbooba and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami will go to Delhi for a meeting.
In the meeting, all three will again represent their own party, not PAGD.
