Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Beijing and will discuss these issues including Kailash Mansarovar and LAC. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Beijing on Sunday on a two-day visit. On his visit to China, Misri will discuss various bilateral matters including the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with Chinese officials.
This will be the second high-level discussion between India and China within about one and a half months. Last month, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval went to Beijing and had a special representative-level discussion with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
On reaching Beijing, Misri met Liu Jianchao, head of the International Department of the ruling Communist Party. This department has a big role in determining China’s foreign policy. According to the news of the government newspaper Global Times, both sides communicated by emphasizing dialogue, improving relations, and international and regional issues of common concern.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs had said on Thursday that the Indian Foreign Secretary would hold talks with the Deputy Foreign Minister of China on various areas of India-China relations such as political, economic, and people-related issues. On Friday, China welcomed Misri’s visit.
Mao Ning, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated, “We welcome Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s visit to China.” According to Mao, in October 2024, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to carry on their bilateral discussions.
Both sides have worked to continue dialogue. The Chinese and Indian foreign and defense ministers have met each other several times. Last month, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Beijing and held special representative-level talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Mao said that during the talks, both sides agreed to resume dialogue as well as cooperation in various fields.
After Doval’s visit, Misri is the second high-level Indian official to visit Beijing. It is expected that during Misri’s visit, the two countries can discuss many issues including the situation of LAC in eastern Ladakh. These include ways to restart the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, improve the bilateral visa regime, and resumption of direct flight services between the two countries.
