First Test Between Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Ended Inconclusively

First Test between Bangladesh-Sri Lanka ended up in a draw, Mathews, who scored 199 runs, was named ‘Player of the Match.’

The first match of the two-Test series being played between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ended inconclusively.

Sri Lanka, recovering from setbacks in the second innings on the fifth day, drew the opening Test of the series against Bangladesh on Thursday.

Former captain Angelo Mathews, who played a blistering inning of 199 runs in the first innings for Sri Lanka in this match, was adjudged the player of the match.

On the final day for Sri Lanka, the innings of Dinesh Chandimal (39 not out) and Niroshan Dickwella (61 not out) were crucial, they helped the team recover from the shocks in the morning.

In the middle of the session, Sri Lanka’s score in the second innings was 161 for six and they took a 93-run lead.

But, when the game was stopped after 73 overs with the consent of both the captains, Sri Lanka’s score, was 260 for six.

Sri Lanka had scored 397 runs in the first innings, in response to which Bangladesh had taken two wickets by the end of the fourth day with Bangladesh taking a lead of 68 runs at 465 runs.

The second and final Test of the series will start in Dhaka on Monday.

Sri Lanka started playing at 39 for two in the morning. They then lost the wickets of Kushal Mendis (48) and Angelo Mathews (0), leaving their score at 128 for four by lunchtime.

Captain Dimuth Karunaratne (52) was the fifth to be dismissed by Taijul. Dhananjay de Silva was dismissed for 33, which was the team’s sixth wicket.

After this, Chandimal and Dickwella stood firm. Dickwella also completed his 20th half-century in 83 balls during this period.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took four wickets for 82 runs and also got a run-out.

The Bangladesh attack missed pacer Shoriful Islam, who was injured while batting on Wednesday. He didn’t bowl and he was out of the game for four-five weeks.
