Fierce Uproar in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly as MLAs Clash Over Article 370 Restoration Proposal
The National Conference MLAs had a heated argument not only with the BJP MLAs but also with Para. Independents Shabbir Kool and Sheikh Khurshid Ahmed reached the middle of the House in front of the Speaker’s chair.
The matter was not limited to this, some MLAs of the National Conference got up from their seats and moved towards Para’s seat, who were somehow stopped by the watch and ward staff.
The speaker kept appealing to everyone for peace, and finally, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had to intervene. He reprimanded Para and said that this was not unexpected, but it had been brought only for publicity and show.
Abdul Rather became the speaker unanimously
Before the address of the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker was elected and senior National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather became the Speaker unanimously. While congratulating him, Waheed ur Rehman Para of PDP said today is a historic day.
He congratulated him on being elected Speaker and on the formation of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and said that this Assembly was the most powerful. He said, “On this occasion, I want to give you a proposal against the abrogation of Article 370 and for its restoration.”
After that, he sent this proposal to the Speaker. As soon as the Vidhansabha worker took this proposal from Para’s hand, BJP MLAs stood up from their seats. They protested against this and said that this was against the rules. It should be removed from the proceedings. The speaker tried to pacify them, but they did not agree.
Fierce Uproar in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly: Which rules are you talking about?
BJP leader Sham Lal Sharma kept telling the speaker again and again that it should be removed, this is not a rule. On this, Waheed ur Rehman Para replied to him that what was the rule when the government was toppled, Article 370 was also removed by ignoring the rules.
Seeing the opposition not calming down, the MLAs of the ruling National Conference also stood up from their seats. Addressing the BJP MLAs, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary said that rules are talking about, when the leader of the House has spoken, then there is no need for other members to speak, then under which rule has the leader of the opposition spoken here?
Fierce Uproar in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly: Hilal Akbar Lone came forward from his seat
After this, a heated argument started between the two sides. The speaker tried to pacify the members and said I have not seen this proposal myself, I will assess it, only then will I be able to do something. No one heard them and everyone started accusing each other.
Meanwhile, NC’s Abdul Majeed Butt got up from his seat and moved towards Para, while another PDP MLA Mir Fayaz also came forward in support of Para from his seat. He was stopped by the watch and ward staff. Another National Conference MLA Hilal Akbar Lone also got up from his seat twice and came forward.
Along with him was Mohammad Altaf Kalu who was saying something while pointing towards the BJP MLAs with his hand. The speaker again warned the members and said that there was also the address of the Lieutenant Governor.
Calm down, but by then Shabbir Kule and MP Engineer Rashid’s brother Sheikh Khurshid Ahmed also reached the middle of the house. There was a situation of uproar.
Fierce Uproar in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly: My colleagues raised their voices the most
Seeing that the matter was not calming down, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah intervened. He said that today was the first day and I did not expect politics. Today there was talk of the election of the speaker. I had also decided that there would be no talk of politics today.
We had an idea that such a proposal would be brought and we also knew who was preparing it, but we did not expect that this proposal would be brought today. He said that there was no justification for bringing this proposal today and there is no benefit in it.
My colleagues have raised their voices the most against the removal of Article 370. The truth is that the majority population of Jammu and Kashmir has rejected the decision of August 5, 2019.
I believe that the proposal brought today is only to get publicity for himself. If he wanted to bring such a proposal, he would have discussed it with us as well. After this, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till the address of the Lieutenant Governor.
