The Supreme Court questioned the state government on the arrest of the accused, the status of police and judicial custody of the accused, and the process of recording the statements of witnesses and victims, saying, “We feel that you have taken slow steps to delay. Please dispel this notion.’
Scrutiny did not become an endless story.
In the matter, a bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Hima Kohli said, “The investigation should not become an endless story.”
The court also questioned the last-minute filing of the status report by the state government and directed to file the status report in advance next time, postponing the hearing of the matter till October 26.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, submitted that the status report has been filed in a sealed cover.
Questioning the late filing of the status report, the Chief Justice said, “What is the point of filing status report at the last minute? How do we read it? The status report should have been filed earlier.
Waited till one o’clock in the night.
Justice Ramana said that he waited till one o’clock in the night to see that something would be filed but nothing was filed.
Justice Surya Kant said that why the report was filed on a sealed cover, the court had not said so.
When the court could not see the status report, Salve said that the hearing should be postponed till Friday, but the bench refused to adjourn the hearing and continued the hearing.
